A 2 hour snorkeling tour to the Palancar Reef its a magnificent experience. The Reef is about 200 yards offshore making it an easy swim. Boat rentals available upon request. PUERTO MORELOS PARQUE MARINO NACIONAL
Decreto: Diario Oficial de la Federación, 2 de febrero de 1998.
Superficie: 9,066.63 ha.
Ubicación: En la Costa Caribe del Municipio de Benito Juárez, frente al poblado de Puerto Morelos.
Importancia: El parque forma parte de la barrera coralina denominada "Gran Cinturón de Arrecifes del Atlántico Occidental", considerada como la segunda barrera más grande del mundo. Así mismo, esta sección ubicada frente a Puerto Morelos se extiende al Norte hasta los límites del Parque Nacional Costa Occidental de Isla Mujeres, Punta Cancún y Punta Nizuc.
El arrecife sustenta comunidades biológicas con valor ecológico, económico y recreativo, constituyendo de ésta manera el recurso más importante para la actividad turística en la cual se basa la economía de la comunidad de Puerto Morelos.
Biodiversidad: En el arrecife coralino y en la laguna arrecifal habitan especies de algas como el sargazo Sargassum sp, peces como el boquinete Lachnolaimus Maximus e invertebrados como el coral cuerno de ciervo Acropora Cervicornis y coral cerebro Phormidium Corallyticum.
Vía de acceso: La comunidad de Puerto Morelos, está conectada con el resto del Estado por la carretera federal 307 Reforma Agraria-Puerto Juárez.
